I grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo, about an hour west of Oakville. I started my musical career at the young age of three. Even though many teachers said I was too young, I was persistent and my mum finally found a teacher.
I started teaching piano at the age of 16. I continued teaching in order to buy my own piano (a deal I made with my parents in order for them to let me teach!)
I went on to study music full time at University of Western Ontario.I graduated with my Honours degree in Music Education. Knowing in my soul that I wanted to be a teacher (just wasn't sure at the time what kind of teacher); I went on to study Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at University of Toronto. There I graduated in the top of my class and was offered lifetime membership into the Golden Key International Honours Society. Click here to see my current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate.
After teaching Special Education and English as a Second Language for two years, I wanted to get back to my roots, so I came back to my first love; music and the piano. I had stopped playing for a few years while trying to get my teaching career up and running; so I was excited to get back to playing wonderful music again.
My teaching philosophy is that all people deserve the right to discover and create beautiful music. It is a part of everyone, and I'm here to help people bring out what they have inside. Music is and always has been part of me and I love being able to share it with my students. I am a strong advocate for the arts and arts education.
I share my life with my wonderful husband, Andy, and our little bunnies; Trixie, Mickey & Georgie.
